Google Apps Is Now G Suite

Google announced today the new name for Google Apps – G Suite.

Here’s how the changes will take shape:

Google For Work is now Google Cloud

Google Apps for Work -  now called G Suite

Google Apps for Education is G Suite for Education

The changes are in name only, the applications remain the same, no change to Gmail, Docs, Drive etc

Google have made the changes to better reflect their mission ‘to help people everywhere work and innovate together, so that your organization can move faster and achieve more.’

At Haptic we feel it’s a great move to improve the way the two aspects of Google’s offering align. We look forward to seeing future enhancements and developments in the coming months.

We will also be hosting another of our interactive Google sessions 29th November at Sheffield College, if you’d like to join us to learn more about the benefits and cost savings Google can provide – click here to contact us.

Splendour Festival uses Haptic WiFi Solution

We are incredibly proud to announce that the annual Splendour Festival held in Nottingham will be utilising Haptic Networks' WiFi solution.

Playing host to top names such as Jess Glynne, Stiff Little Fingers, UB40, The Fratellis and Turin Brakes the festival is recognised as the city’s biggest summer day out and shortlisted in the final three for Best Festival in the national Live Music Business awards.

DHP Family and Nottingham City Council are keen to replicate the success of last year which saw 20,000 festival goers sprawled across Wollaton Park. With lots happening all over the park aside from the three music stages, including comedy in the courtyard, a kids’ area and entertainers out and about in the crowd, the festival is a fantastic day out for all the family.

George Akins, owner, DHP Family, said: “We’re delighted to bring bands to Splendour that have contributed so much to the musical heritage in this country. Once again, we’re confident that our mix of music legends along with some of the hottest artists of the moment will make it a winning day out for everyone, whatever their age or musical taste.”

Councillor Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture at Nottingham City Council, said: “We’re pleased to announce a great line-up for Splendour Festival that I think Nottingham people will love. Splendour really is the highlight of the summer and with acts like Jess Glynne, The Human League, UB40 and The Darkness, tickets are sure to sell fast. Splendour truly offers something for all tastes in music, and with the comedy stage and kids’ area it’s a really fun family day out.”

Haptic have provided a full outdoor Ruckus WiFi solution to enable festival-goers the solid, reliable, family friendly WiFi connection they need to enhance their (hopefully sunny!) day out.

Google brings Android Play Store to Chrome

Google recently announced excellent news for users of Android and Chrome.

The Android app store, Play, will soon be arriving to Chrome OS, this means that Chromebooks will soon be able to run the majority of the 1.5 million+ Android apps currently in existence.

The news brings a lot more functionality to Chromebooks. Users will be able to just click on the Play Store icon on their Chromebook dock and search for apps exactly like they would on an Android device.

It's also excellent news for app developers, who will be able to reach more users in different ways. Android is the world’s leading mobile operating system, whereas Chrome is making fantastic progress as the go-to operating system for Education and Office mobile devices.

This is certainly big news for Chromebooks and makes them even more appealing. Chrome OS and Android will remain as two distinct entities, but they share everything that matters. And will only serve to help increase demand for both types of operating system and their associated devices.
